Abstract

Chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS) is a common disorder to men and the syndrome is diagnosed only on the basis of symptoms, principally pain or discomfort in the pelvic region. As a pathophysiology of the disease has not been established, antimicrobial agents are frequently used. But a patient who does not respond to antibiotics might be needed other treatments, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, alpha-blocking agents or other therapies for symptomatic relief. Previous studies to evaluate the efficacy of many agents, and supportive and surgical therapy to CP/CPPS have been shown various results, so the aim of this review is to evaluate the efficacy of them and to find the best methods for the patients with CP/CPPS. Finally, it needs to try the prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled studies for the evidence-based recommendations.
